Vic: Libs resume scrutiny of government waste role

MELBOURNE, April 18 AAP - The Victorian opposition has appointed its legal affairs
spokesman Andrew McIntosh to fill the scrutiny-of-government portfolio left vacant for
several weeks.

Despite the importance of the position in the lead-up to this year's state poll, Opposition
Leader Robert Doyle had struggled to fill the role previously held by former deputy leader
Phil Honeywood.

Last month, Mr Honeywood announced he would quit politics at the November state election
and soon after relinquished the job of monitoring government waste and mismanagement.

There were no immediate takers for the position and it appeared the role might be scrapped
altogether.

Until late last year it was held by upper house MP Richard Dalla-Riva but he lost the
portfolio in a reshuffle.

Mr Doyle announced today that Mr McIntosh, the member for the lower house seat of Kew,
would take over the position.
